Coaching
Visual Instructor at Powdersville High School
I was the Visual Instructor at Powdersville High School during the Fall 2019 season. My main focus was teaching marching technique to over 70 band members. I also worked closely with each instrument section as they rehearsed music during sectionals and set drill on the field. I taught the band multiple exercises, focusing on the core and foot work, to ensure a unified step and a proper upper body. In addition, I wrote choreography for the band members throughout the show. While I was not part of the colorguard staff, my previous position as the guard coach at Daniel allowed me to help the colorguard and provide accurate commentary when I looked away from the band.
Colorguard Coach at D.W. Daniel High School
I was the colorguard coach at Daniel High in Central, SC for the Fall and Winter season of 2018-2019. I started my career with Daniel as the Head Colorguard Director for the Fall 2018 season. With my techs, I coached nine guard members and around 80 band members to second place at the State competition, the highest Daniel had placed at that point. I taught my own choreography to both the guard and band while teaching dance and marching basics to all of the students. If I was not studying or in class, I spent most of my time writing or teaching choreography, warm ups and across the floors to the team. I also chose the uniforms and silks with the guidance of our show designer.
For the winter season, I was co-coaching with two wonderful women. We taught two guards, a JV and Varsity team, with a total of 30 students. With the other coaches, band director and our designer, we created two separate shows for our teams.
Before I started at Daniel, I was a volunteer tech at Wando High School for the summer of 2018.
Spinning
I began spinning fall of my sophomore year of high school and continued until my freshman year of college. I marched both fall and winter for three years in high school, my senior year as the Colorguard Captain, and marched Tiger Band my freshman year of college. I enjoyed being on weapon line for both pieces of equipment. After spinning with Tiger Guard for a season, I decided to end my spinning career with Clemson so I could focus on teaching.
Singing
Although I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to singing, I try to join ensembles when it is convenient. I was recently a member of the Candlelight Choir at Walt Disney World, a cast member volunteer choir.
I was a member of an audition mix choir at Clemson, CU Singers, for several semesters. I was a Soprano 1 for a semester but later switched to my normal voice part, Alto 2.
Before Clemson I participated in All-State with Wando High School and was a member of a church choir in Seattle.
When I was a Vacation Bible School leader, I was the music teacher for the participants.
